Mike Johnson is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Master Pedro Sauer. For years, Mike has taught Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in the state of Maryland. Mike is also a lieutenant in the Howard County Police Department and has served as a defensive tactics instructor at the Police Academy. Mike has been training in martial arts since he was a teenager and has collected a huge amount of knowledge throughout his lifetime.
Mike was also my first instructor in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. My first classes and first sparring sessions happened with Mike and I owe much of my knowledge of the fundamentals to his instruction. In this episode, we talk about some thoughts regarding belt testing, creating a curriculum, and training self-defense in the academy. We also discuss training for Police Officers and Mike explains some insider knowledge regarding training on the Police force.
